Strong teams, strong partnership

From 16 to 21 September, Rapšach in Czechia became the meeting place for the world’s best search and rescue dog teams. 95 teams from 22 nations gathered at the 29th IRO World Championship to show what people and dogs can achieve together.

In Tracking, Area or Rubble Search, the dogs threw themselves into the task, following their noses and tuning in to every signal from their handlers. True life-saving teamwork is born only when instinct, training, trust and strategy flow together.

But the competition tested more than searching alone. Obedience and dexterity were also on the programme, with dogs proving how reliably they respond to commands and how confidently they master obstacles such as ladders or swings. Such skills are vital beyond the arena – they are what make the difference when lives are at stake.

The World Championship was, however, about more than scores and medals. It brought people and dogs from across the globe together, encouraged the exchange of ideas and forged friendships. This spirit of international cooperation is what makes the search and rescue dog community so strong.
