Ready to respond to disasters worldwide
From 1 to 5 October, 32 international search and rescue dog teams took on the challenge of the IRO Mission Readiness Test (MRT) for Rubble Search at the Tritolwerk training site in Eggendorf, Lower Austria. Sixteen of them met the demanding standards and are now officially certified and ready for international disaster deployments.
The multi-day test assesses operational readiness under highly realistic conditions, demonstrating year after year what is essential in real missions: mental resilience, mutual trust and teamwork. “When a handler loses confidence, the dog senses it immediately and becomes less independent – something that can be critical in a real disaster,” explains Alois Balog, President of the International Search and Rescue Dog Organisation and lead classifier of the test.
Teams from Europe, Asia and South America once again showcased their remarkable dedication, endurance and professionalism in preparing for deployment. Only those who truly work as one can save lives in the chaos of a disaster zone.
