Search dog deployment in Vienna

On the evening of 13 November, residents in Vienna’s 19th district heard a loud crash. A building undergoing renovation had collapsed, sending dust across the street. Emergency services quickly secured the area, but one question remained: Was anyone trapped beneath the debris?

Search and rescue dogs from our member organisation, Feuerwehr Wien Rettungshunde, were deployed to examine the site. Exposed steel beams and unstable debris made the area challenging to navigate. Arvi and Flori, the two search dogs on duty, moved confidently across the rubble and checked every accessible section with calm, steady focus. Their search revealed no signs of trapped persons.

This outcome brought great relief. The dogs’ work provided clarity, improved safety, and allowed emergency crews to move forward without delay.

Incidents like this show how vital well-trained search and rescue dogs are – even when they do not find anyone.
