03.03.2022Statement on the Russia-Ukraine conflict

The International Search and Rescue Dog Organisation (IRO) is following the Russia-Ukraine conflict with deep dismay. Our solidarity and sympathy go out to all those people who are suffering in this war.

As the global umbrella organisation for search and rescue dog work, we are committed to our principles of humanity, neutrality, and impartiality. The International Search and Rescue Dog Organisation unites more than 120 member organisations across five continents. This community is the foundation of the IRO and an example of international collaboration in the field of search and rescue dog work and in helping people in need. This cooperation unites search and rescue dog handlers from all over the world, including Russia and Ukraine. Helping people must not be biased in terms of nation, religion, ethnic origin, or political opinion.

We hope that the conflict will stop as soon as possible and that a diplomatic solution will be found.

We need peace – every victim of this war is one too many!
