As the United Nations sets the rules for disaster relief missions, IRO tests and certifies standardised search and rescue dog teams. Testing events are carried out based on a standardised set of rules, which has been issued together with the Federation Cynologique Internationale (FCI). These International Testing Standards for Search and Rescue Dogs (IPO-R) include the requirements for dog handlers and dogs in the fields of Tracking, Area, Rubble, Avalanche and Water - from the aptitude test (E/V from 2019 onwards) to the highest testing level (B). The IPO-R is regularly adapted to the latest international developments and requirements for search and rescue dog teams. The current version is from 01 February 2012, the new and revised version will be valid from 01 January 2019.
