As the United Nations sets the rules for disaster relief missions, IRO tests and certifies standardised search and rescue dog teams. Testing events are carried out based on a standardised set of rules, which has been issued together with the Federation Cynologique Internationale (FCI). These International Testing Standards for Search and Rescue Dogs (IPO-R) include the requirements for dog handlers and dogs in the fields of Tracking, Area, Rubble, Avalanche and Water - from the aptitude test to the highest testing level (B). The IPO-R is regularly adapted to the latest international developments and requirements for search and rescue dog teams. The current version is from 01 January 2019.
