Int. Testing Events
IRO testing events qualify search and rescue dogs in one of the categories of Rubble, Area, Tracking, Avalanche and Water. To ensure the high quality of the IRO, specially trained Judges are sent to conduct the relevant testing event.
Early testing - search and rescue dogs often already start their training at an age of just eight weeks. Following sufficient training, search and rescue dog teams can compete in all categories, and can also demonstrate their abilities in obedience and dexterity. The first testing event is the suitability test (E test), which tests dexterity, strength of will and other prerequisites. The search and search and rescue dog teams can then take the search and rescue dog team A and B tests. The B test prepares for the mission readiness test (MRT), after which the dog then carries the IRO quality label and is ready for deployment. For a dog to take the highest testing level B at the IRO, it must be at least 20 months old, and no older than eight years of age for the mission readiness test. In practice, it takes an average of two to three years to train a dog for mission readiness. All international IRO testing events are assessed according to the International Testing Standards for Search and Rescue Dogs (IPO-R), which were prepared together with the FCI.
The IRO promotes international testing events worldwide. IRO member organisations can send an application to hold a testing event in their country to the IRO Office before 30.06. of the year proceeding the event. You can find the application form here.
We look forward to your participation
